Autism Society of Maine is a non‐profit organization founded in 1976, whose membership consists of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), their families, members of the community, and the professionals who work with them. As an affiliate of the Autism Society, our mission is to promote lifelong access and opportunity for all individuals on the autism spectrum to become participating members of their communities. Education, advocacy, support and public awareness form the cornerstones of the Autism Society of Maine’s efforts to carry forth our mission.
The role and primary function of the Executive Director for the Autism Society of Maine is to act as an advocate for individuals living with autism, as requested and allowed by the mission statement of the Autism Society of Maine.Respond to requests for information about autism submitted to the Society by community members.Work cooperatively with public and private schools, state agencies, and social service providers. Maintain ASM’s working relationship with state and federal agencies, other grantors, national organizations, and other disability-related groups. Work collaboratively with staff, Board of Directors, adults, and families on various programs and events.Public speaking, oversee development and implantation of fundraising events, and strategic leadership.The Executive Director will also provide program oversight, as well as engage in public relations, board relations, and performance of general operations.
Qualifications:
The Autism Society of Maine is seeking candidates who are articulate, well organized, and able to communicate on various of levels. Knowledge about state systems and government processes is imperative, particularly administration and monitoring of state grant funds. Candidates will be proficient in state and federal law, policy, and regulations which effect individuals living with autism. Interested parties must have an understanding of autism spectrum disorder.
Position Requirements:
·Bachelor’s degree in social services, education, psychology, or related field.
·In lieu of degree, five years of experience in the field of social services or education.
·Minimum of five years of leadership experience as an Executive or Program Director.
·Senior-level organizational leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector, and successful experience growing an organization through the development and execution of strategic plans.
·Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
·Experience working in partnership with a nonprofit Board of Directors and supporting best governance practices.
·Innovative, unconventional, and creative problem-solving skills.
·Future planning, organizational development, and technological proficiency.
·Awareness of ongoing political and societal changes.
·Demonstrated ability to build and maintain community and stakeholder relationships.
·Excellent leadership and organizational skills.
·Background in advocacy or public policy related to autism spectrum disorder or other related diagnoses.
·Knowledge of Request for Proposals (RFP), fiscal management, contract development, and grant writing.
·A passion for supporting and advocating for those in the autism community.
The Executive Director is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position offering a competitive pay of $80,000 to $85,000 annually and benefits, including:
·Opportunity for remote work.
·136 hours of paid time.
·4 paid vacation days the week of December 25 th .
·Medical stipend.
