Job summary

The Mid-East Commission in Washington, NC seeks an Executive Director to lead a regional agency serving five counties. You will report to the Commission Board of 51 local officials and citizen representatives and manage 25–30 staff with a budget over $9 million.

The position requires a master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field, or equivalent experience, plus demonstrated leadership and knowledge of local governments, budgeting, and federal/state programs.

Qualifications

• Experience in financial management and budgeting; knowledge of state and federal programs.
• Ability to oversee services across multiple programs and manage a mid-size staff.

• Collaborate with local governments, private sector, and non-profit organizations to advance regional priorities.

Job description

The Mid-East Commission (Commission), located in Washington, North Carolina, serves the forty municipalities within the five-county region of Beaufort, Bertie, Hertford, Martin and Pitt, and administers programs and services for the Area Agency on Aging; Planning, Economic Development and Community Services; and Workforce Development. The Commission is seeking a qualified individual with the needed education and experience to serve as the Executive Director for the Commissions Board of 51 local elected officials and citizen representatives, and to manage a team of 25-30 professional staff with an annual budget in excess of $9 million.

The candidate must have a masters degree in public administration, business administration, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. He/she should also have relevant experience in working with local governments including counties and municipalities.

He/she must possess demonstrated leadership ability; professional expertise in providing technical assistance and services; functional knowledge and understanding of the Commissions various programs and services; experience in financial management and budgeting; experience and knowledge of state and federal programs; and have proven management skills and ability to work with staff, all levels of governments, private industry and non-profit organizations.
