Position Overview
The Psychedelic Therapy Alliance is seeking a part-time Executive Director to lead the organization through its next stage of development and growth.
The Executive Director will serve as the primary operational and organizational leader of the Alliance, working closely with the Board of Directors and Alliance Subcommittees to translate strategic priorities into action, strengthen member engagement, steward key partnerships, support organizational sustainability, and increase the Alliance's visibility and impact within the psychedelic therapy field.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with the Board to establish organizational priorities and translate strategic direction into achievable annual and quarterly goals.
- Maintain a clear view of organizational priorities, projects, commitments, and opportunities.
- Help determine what the Alliance should pursue, defer, delegate, or decline given available capacity and resources.
- Support the continued development of the Alliance as a sustainable and influential professional association.
- Provide regular updates to the Board and identify decisions requiring Board involvement.
Training Partnership & Strategic Collaborations
- Cultivate strategic partnerships that advance the Alliance's mission and create opportunities for members and the organization.
- Serve as the primary organizational point of contact for the Alliance's partners and collaborators
- Steward the partnership agreements and maintain alignment between organizations.
- Lead organizational-level conversations related to contracts, funding, donors, future projects, partnership status, and emerging opportunities.
- Provide high-level oversight and advising for projects developed through partnerships.
- Coordinate with member subject matter experts
Membership & Community
- Oversee the membership program, including recruitment, application cycles, onboarding, renewals, and ongoing member engagement.
- Work with the Membership Committee and Board to implement membership criteria and processes as the Alliance expands.
- Ensure members receive meaningful opportunities for connection, professional exchange, visibility, and participation in Alliance initiatives.
- Oversee monthly member meetings and support initiatives such as member spotlights, peer consultation, working groups, and other community offerings.
- Maintain communication with members and ensure they understand organizational developments and opportunities to participate.
Programs, Committees & Member-Led Initiatives
- Provide coordination and organizational support to Alliance committees, working groups, and member-led initiatives.
- Help establish clear goals, timelines, ownership, and communication pathways for projects.
- Connect members with opportunities to contribute their expertise without requiring the ED to personally lead the substantive content of each initiative.
- Support projects related to professional standards, publications, education, advocacy, and other priorities established by the organization.
External Relations & Visibility
- Serve as a public-facing representative of the Alliance alongside Board members and designated member experts.
- Respond to and coordinate organizational inquiries from media, professional organizations, researchers, conferences, and potential collaborators.
- Oversee the Alliance's broader communications strategy, including website, newsletters, member communications, and social media, while delegating implementation where appropriate.
- Identify opportunities to elevate Alliance members and their expertise through media, publications, speaking opportunities, and professional collaborations.
- Help establish the Alliance as a trusted professional voice within the evolving psychedelic therapy field.
Fundraising & Organizational Sustainability
- Work with the Board to develop and implement a realistic fundraising and revenue strategy.
- Cultivate relationships with prospective donors, funders, sponsors, and strategic partners.
- Pursue appropriate grants, philanthropic support, partnership funding, membership revenue, and other opportunities that support organizational sustainability.
- Develop funding opportunities that can expand organizational capacity, including the ED role itself.
- Support budgeting and financial planning in partnership with the Treasurer, Board, and administrative support.
Operations & Governance
- Ensure essential organizational operations continue to function effectively, with administrative tasks delegated whenever possible.
- Coordinate Board meetings, planning processes, and organizational follow-through.
- Support governance needs including policies, bylaws, Board transitions, committee structures, and organizational documentation.
- Maintain appropriate oversight of contracts, organizational commitments, and external relationships.
- Supervise contractors or administrative support as organizational resources allow.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, highly organized leader who understands how to move a small, mission-driven organization forward with limited resources. They are comfortable working independently while maintaining strong communication with a volunteer Board and a community of experienced professionals.
Required qualifications:
- Deep understanding of psychedelic therapy and the evolving psychedelic field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, relationship‑building, and project management skills.
- Ability to prioritize effectively and operate strategically within limited hours and resources.
- Experience with fundraising, donor cultivation, grants, partnerships, or organizational development.
- A collaborative leadership style that values transparency, shared ownership, and member participation.
Preferred experience:
- Master's degree, doctorate, or equivalent advanced degree in a mental health field.
- Current licensure as a mental health practitioner.
- Leadership or management experience within a nonprofit, professional association, membership organization, or other mission-driven initiative.
- Experience working with Boards, committees, contractors, and senior professional stakeholders.
- Experience working with highly experienced clinicians, researchers, trainers, and other subject matter experts.
Experience providing psychedelic-assisted therapy is strongly valued but not required. The ED's primary role is organizational leadership and stewardship, with clinical and technical leadership remaining appropriately situated with Alliance members and designated subject matter experts.
Time Commitment
The position will begin at approximately 10 hours per week. The Alliance intends to grow the position as funding and organizational needs allow and as funding becomes available.
Because the Alliance is entering a period of increased visibility, membership growth, partnership development, and fundraising, the successful candidate should be interested in helping build the organizational capacity necessary for the ED position and the Alliance itself to expand over time.
Compensation
$50-60/hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Location and availability
This is a fully remote position open to all applicants, independent of location. Candidates must be available to collaborate and attend meetings during U.S. business hours.
