Job summary

Roseburg Rescue Mission seeks an Executive Director to lead a long-standing faith-based ministry and to build on its 60-year foundation. The next Director will focus on evangelism within social services and provide strategic direction for ministries, housing programs, and shelters.

Job description

Roseburg Rescue Mission is seeking an Executive Director to continue building upon the foundation of ministry laid down over the past 60 years. The next Director will have a focus on evangelism in every social service provided.

There are two campuses located a mile apart. One is in the old town area across the street from the old train depot and tracks. It has the men’s services, administration office, two thrift stores, and a warehouse. The other campus, called Samaritan Inn, is for women and children. Both locations have emergency shelter, program, and transitional housing. There are 123 beds for men and 115 beds for women and children. A strong income is generated from individual donations, store sales, and housing rentals.

We want to maintain our established culture during this transition of Executive Director leadership, because it works well with our community. Last year, our client services were Emergency Shelter 47%, Program 20%, and Transitional Rentals 33%. All three programs have required chapel attendance and sobriety. We do not accept government funding. We have an outreach program using a van and bicycles to go out to homeless camps to bring people into our shelters. We are continually seeking ways to be as inclusive of homeless men, women, and children as we can, while maintaining an orderly operation.

The new Executive Director does not need previous Executive Director experience. Candidates do need to have experience as a department head in a Gospel Rescue Mission. An existing staff person here will write the newsletter and do the fundraising.

Roseburg Rescue Mission is located on I-5, a very well-traveled interstate freeway. There is a significant homeless camping presence here. Ministry opportunity is great. The next Director will need vision to work with our Board of Directors, other nonprofits, and city officials to continue developing outreach to homeless people.
