UC Green is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering volunteer environmental stewardship in University City and surrounding Philadelphia communities. Through strong partnerships with local residents, institutions, and civic groups, UC Green supports tree planting, greening projects, and community-led environmental initiatives. The organization emphasizes education and engagement to help neighbors actively care for their shared outdoor spaces. UC Green's work strengthens community connections while improving environmental health and neighborhood livability for all.

Role Description

The Executive Director is a full-time, hybrid role based in Philadelphia, PA, with flexibility for some work from home. The Executive Director will provide strategic leadership, managing day-to-day operations, programs, and staff to advance UC Green's mission of environmental stewardship. This includes overseeing program planning and implementation, supervising and supporting team members, and coordinating with volunteers and community partners. The role will lead fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and events, while managing the annual budget and maintaining sound financial practices. The Executive Director will also represent UC Green in the community, build partnerships with local organizations and institutions, and report regularly to the Board of Directors on organizational performance and strategic priorities.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including staff supervision, team building, and experience guiding organizational strategy.
  • Experience in nonprofit administration, including budgeting, financial oversight, grant management, and reporting.
  • Strong communication skills, including public speaking, stakeholder engagement, and the ability to build and maintain community and institutional partnerships.
  • Fundraising experience, including donor relations, grant writing, sponsorships, and special event planning.
  • Background or strong interest in environmental stewardship, urban greening, or community development, especially in diverse urban communities.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment, including field presence in Philadelphia neighborhoods, occasional evening/weekend events, and remote administrative work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (such as nonprofit management, environmental studies, urban planning, or related discipline) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and working collaboratively with people from a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences.
