FairchildHR is assisting a Jacksonville nonprofit in its search for an Executive Director to lead the organization’s advocacy, fundraising, and strategic growth from a flexible, remote-friendly base.

The role requires a strong communicator who can build consensus with city officials, donors, boards, and community partners, while guiding budget management and program oversight in a dynamic urban environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years in a leadership role.
• Nonprofit leadership experience (staff, board, or volunteer).
• Track record in fundraising, sponsorship sales, marketing, or event management.
• Strong public speaking and persuasive writing; media comfort.
• Ability to work with people who disagree.
• Independent worker with decision-making in limited structure.
• Genuine interest in how cities look, feel, and function.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

A respected Jacksonville nonprofit is looking for its next Executive Director. For decades, the organization has worked to protect and improve the city’s natural and built environment, including tree canopy, streetscapes, parks and public spaces, signage, and the design of new development.

It is independent and nonpartisan, with no financial stake in the outcome. That independence is why city leaders, developers, and neighborhood groups take its recommendations seriously.

What you’ll do

• Serve as the organization’s lead voice with city officials, boards and commissions, peer nonprofits, donors, and the media
• Track city legislation and development proposals, form advocacy positions, and represent the organization at public hearings and meetings
• Direct communications across email, social media, website, and outside agency partners
• Manage the budget with the Treasurer, oversee vendors and contractors, and support the board and its committees

What you bring

• 4+ years in a leadership role
• Nonprofit experience as a staff leader, board member, or volunteer leader
• A track record in fundraising, sponsorship sales, marketing, or event management
• Strong public speaking and persuasive writing; comfortable with the media
• The ability to work calmly and productively with people who disagree
• Comfort working independently and making decisions with limited structure
• A genuine interest in how cities look, feel, and function
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
