Non‑profit organization with over a century of experience in providing quality housing and supportive services to seniors in southern Vermont is searching for an energetic, visionary executive director. The desired applicant will have experience in delivering excellence in care, leading and fostering collaboration among staff, and creating and building upon relationships in the community.

As administrator of Bradley House, a licensed Level III Residential Care Home, the applicant should have at least 2 years of administrative experience in residential care/assisted living, or related management experience in healthcare services.

Position Summary

Responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of Garden Path Elder Living; upholds and advances the mission and vision of the organization. As Bradley House Administrator, the Executive Director provides direct oversight to the management team, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations, while ensuring the provision of quality care and supportive services to all residents.

Reports to: Garden Path Elder Living Board of Directors

Responsibilities
Universal Responsibilities
  • Adheres to supporting the dignity, privacy, independence, choice and individuality of residents; models a commitment to sustaining a person‑centered home and community.
  • Ensures the provision of the highest quality of care in an environment respectful and supportive of residents and staff.
Resident Care
  • Works with Clinical Director/RN, Admissions Coordinator and other management staff to ensure timely resident admissions process.
  • Attends regular meetings with management and clinical staff to discuss residency issues and changes in status. Ensures that resident families, clinicians, and others as appropriate are kept informed of changes in resident conditions and service needs.
  • Oversees transfer/discharge process.
  • Oversees the Clinical Director/RN, ensuring that residents’ day‑to‑day care needs are met, that emergency medical issues are properly addressed, and that resident assessments, medication administration, and clinical incidents and interventions are documented as per facility policy.
  • Ensures the provision of on‑call RN services to provide weekend and after‑hours consultation for care staff as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Clinical Director/RN, is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate incidents and changes in condition of residents as required by regulation are reported to the State certification agency and the resident’s responsible party. Ensure that any suspected resident abuse is reported in a timely manner to the Ombudsman, Adult Protective Services, and the State certification agency.
Finance Management / Fundraising
  • In collaboration with the Board, is responsible for oversight and development of operational budgets, annual projections and long‑term fiscal planning including capital expense planning, oversees contractual bookkeeping and accounting services.
  • Provides oversight to ensure accurate and timely monthly billing to residents and Medicaid.
  • Works with management staff in monitoring staff scheduling and payroll; strives for work efficiency.
  • Develops and submits applications, as appropriate, for public and private grant funding for operating and capital expenses.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with families, referral sources, donors, potential donors and philanthropic organizations and relevant agencies.
  • In collaboration with the Board and management staff, this position plans and implements the organization’s annual fundraising appeal and all other fundraising initiatives.
Personnel / Human Resources
  • Works with Clinical Director/RN, HR and Facilities Directors to coordinate the orientation and training of staff, including regular staff in‑services. Encourages and supports staff development.
  • Oversees, supports and evaluates performance of Clinical Director/RN, Human Resources and Admissions Director, Outreach and Administrative Coordinator, Activities Director, Facility Director, and Lead Housekeeper. Works collaboratively with these positions to ensure that the organization’s facilities and programming operate efficiently and in accordance with all applicable regulatory and community specific policies and procedures.
  • Investigates and responds to any concerns or complaints by residents, families and/or staff.
Organizational / Outreach
  • Serves as liaison to the Board and as ex‑officio Board member.
  • Investigates and responds to any concerns or complaints by residents, families and/or staff.
  • In collaboration with Outreach and Administrative Coordinator and Activities Director, this position ensures the community is kept informed of news, events and issues via print and digital media; delivers semi‑annual events which promote Bradley House to the community.
  • In collaboration with Outreach and Administrative Coordinator, this position develops and implements the organization’s marketing plan, including print, digital and radio advertising, social media, and through event sponsorship and strategic partnerships.
Minimum Qualifications
General Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and effective supervisory skills with the ability to direct the work of others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to the public, residents, families, staff clinicians and other professionals appropriately.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the job requirements.
  • Have a valid Driver’s license, sufficient auto insurance and automobile for potential resident transports.
  • Represent Garden Path Elder Living through participation in community‑minded organizations such as Rotary, the Chamber, and other local development groups.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience administering senior housing programs, long‑term care programming, marketing/fundraising and grant writing preferred.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of clinical environment and care needs of elderly residents, as demonstrated by successful completion of a state‑approved course for Vermont RCH Administrators.
  • At least 2 years of administrative experience in residential care, or related management experience in healthcare services (the latter to be approved by VT Division of Licensing and Protection).
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to enforce all applicable laws, rules and regulations and community specific policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with resident rights, HIPAA and other organization policies.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
