Job summary

Placer County Sheriff's Office seeks a Captain to lead a major division, plan goals, and manage operations across Corrections, Field Operations, and Support Services. You will coordinate with the Undersheriff and Sheriff, oversee budgets, and ensure policy compliance within a large county footprint including Auburn, Roseville, and Tahoe City areas.

Qualifications

• Seven years of increasingly responsible experience in law enforcement.
• At least two years in the classification of Lieutenant with the Placer County Sheriff's Office.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in criminal justice, behavioral science, public or business administration, or related field.
• POST Advanced Certificate; eligible for Management Certificate within one year of appointment.
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement division goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; report to the Sheriff and Undersheriff on matters related to the activities of the assigned division.
• Plan, organize, and direct activities within a major division, including Corrections, Field Operations, Support Services, or the Lake Tahoe Substation; coordinate with other divisions and departments.
• Oversee operations of the assigned division and coordinate with county agencies, courts, and others.
• Direct, oversee, and participate in development of the division's work plan; assign tasks, monitor workflow, and evaluate performance.
• Prepare the division's budget and assist in budget implementation; forecast staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies needs.
• Represent the division to outside agencies and organizations; participate in outside community and professional groups and committees; provide technical assistance as necessary.
