Job summary

City of Manteca is seeking an Assistant Director of Parks, Recreation & Transit to guide multiple divisions and assist the Director in policy and budget matters.

The role oversees park planning, capital projects, recreation, aquatics, youth and adult sports, events, park maintenance, and transit services, with staff supervision and cross-department coordination. A bachelor’s in a related field is required; master’s in CPRE/CPRP or public administration is preferred.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in recreation administration, public administration, park planning, landscape architecture, or related field.
• A master’s degree is highly desirable.
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in parks, recreation, transit, or a comparable public agency setting, including two (2) years of supervisory or management responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating departmental operations, programs, services, and personnel.
• Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work plans, and priorities.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate complex projects, programs, and initiatives involving multiple departments, stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and service providers.
• Coordinate and manage the design, development, and implementation of construction, alteration, and installation projects related to City parks, landscapes, recreation areas, and related facilities.
• Develop project plans, establish priorities and milestones, monitor progress, and ensure the successful completion of assigned projects and initiatives.
• Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, recommendations, presentations, and other written materials.
