Qualifications

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The NCCU School of Law was founded in 1939 to provide an opportunity for legal education to African Americans. The School of Law now provides this opportunity to a more diverse student body than any other in the nation, as it pertains to race and gender. This environment of diversity better prepares our students to effect positive change in the broader society. The Law Library serves the law school faculty and students as their basic library and study resource for teaching and research. The roughly 32,000 square foot library houses over 400,000 volumes and volume equivalents The Law Library is a selective state and federal government depository. The library staff of eight full time librarians (excluding the Director) and seven FTE paraprofessionals serves a day and evening student body of approximately 610 students and 38 faculty members.

Primary Purpose of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide the day-to-day administrative support to the Dean, School of Law. This position requires the performance of a variety of confidential office duties that entail the use of sound judgment based on knowledge and experience; serving as a liaison, on the Dean’s behalf, to University administrators, faculty, and staff. The position will plan and execute the Dean’s travel and expenses; manage and maintain Dean’s calendar; maintain communication between the Dean and various departments within and external to the Law School. The position prepares and edits correspondence, memoranda and reports; creates spreadsheets for a variety of requirements; create PowerPoint presentations; researches, interprets and analyzes issues for the Dean; develops database and other IT applications that organize and manage information storage for the Dean; screens and prioritizes all communication and correspondence (e.g., calls, e-mails, letters), manages projects as assigned by the Dean. The incumbent meets weekly with the Dean for additional assignments associated with the Dean’s suite and/or the School of Law.

Use of sound judgement and discretion as work involves the performance of complex and confidential office duties.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, One Note, Publisher and PowerPoint) applications and an intuitive ability to utilize these tools for effective administration and problem solving.

High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate’s degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible
administrative/office management experience; or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; orequivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
