Job summary

The University of Miami Health System (UHealth) IT Department is seeking a full-time Executive Director of AI Solutions Engineering to lead the enterprise AI engineering function onsite in Miami. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred)
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, including 2+ years leading or managing engineers
• Production experience with LLMs: advanced prompt/context engineering, agent development, tool use/function calling, RAG, and evaluation frameworks
• Strong full-stack or backend engineering skills (Python and/or TypeScript), with API, database, and cloud infra experience (GCP/AWS/Azure)
• Experience translating business problems into shipped technical solutions with non-engineering stakeholders
• Proven ownership of production systems: monitoring, incident response, iteration
• Experience with agent orchestration frameworks and MCP-style tool integration preferred
• Forward-deployed, solutions engineering, or consulting embedding with customers or internal teams preferred
• Familiarity with LLMOps: prompt versioning, eval pipelines, cost monitoring, model routing
• Experience in regulated or data-sensitive domains (fintech, tax, healthcare) including PII handling and compliance

Responsibilities

• Embed with business and engineering teams to map workflows and scope ROI in agent use cases
• Architect and build production-grade AI agents and workflows using LLM APIs and tools
• Design and maintain evaluation suites, guardrails, and observability for deployed agents
• Own end-to-end deployments from prototype to rollout and monitoring
• Manage model selection, prompt standards, and API cost optimization
• Hire, mentor, and manage a team of AI engineers and conduct performance reviews
• Define intake and prioritization of agent requests and SLAs
• Establish reusable platform components to accelerate shipping of agents
• Partner with leaders to build an AI adoption roadmap and report outcomes
• Set governance standards for safe, responsible deployment including privacy and human-in-the-loop
