Job summary

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is seeking a staff support specialist to assist the Director of the Logistics Center and the team in deploying veterinary resources within 24 hours. This role supports States, Tribes, and Territories as they plan, train, and exercise for the rapid receipt of stockpile resources.

Qualifications

• GS-09 requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07.
• A Master's degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education may be qualifying.
• Experience with travel, administrative tasks, and staff support is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Participates in planning, designing, coordinating training and exercise events with primary and support agencies.
• Manages Director’s travel, schedules, and workflow; ensures continuity in their absence.
• Guides staff on complex travel issues and reviews travel authorizations and vouchers for compliance.
• Supports personnel actions, advising on staffing, performance, and workforce planning needs.
• Leads and motivates staff, improves processes, and implements internal controls for efficient operations.
