Job summary

USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) seeks professionals to support day-to-day operations in facilitating trade and preventing animal disease spread through import/export of live animals, animal byproducts, and biological materials. The role applies veterinary and regulatory knowledge to control diseases while enabling international trade.

This GS-06 level position offers opportunities to work across Veterinary Services and Field Operations with potential recruitment

Qualifications

Experience working with animals in farm, ranch, or veterinary settings.
Ability to document data and conclusions for formal reports.
Ability to assess health and welfare problems in animals.

Responsibilities

Create, organize, and ensure completeness of animal import records.
Monitor import requests and animal release workflow in web-based systems.
Enter animal import data into required IT systems.
Answer calls from veterinarians, importers, exporters, brokers, drivers, and applicants; provide port operation and regulatory info.
Advise importers on forms, health certificates, routings, and procedures.
Assist with exporting program administration to keep files and references complete and current.
Inspect livestock for disease and compliance with regulations.
Oversee disinfection of premises and vehicles used in transportation of imported and diseased livestock.
