Job summary

The Cincinnati Insurance Companies seeks an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter for the Arizona or New Mexico region, ideally near our Gilbert, AZ Headquarters. The role focuses on underwriting, pricing, and managing surplus lines business with producers and reinsurers.

The candidate should have 5+ years of commercial lines P&C underwriting experience, ASLI/CPCU preferred, and reside within or near the territory.

• Bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience.
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial lines property and casualty products is required.

Responsibilities

• Solicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business.
• Determine risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions.
• Develop, analyze and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks.
• Aim to achieve production and loss ratio goals within the regional territory.
• Travel within assigned territory, possibly with overnight stays.
• Mentor and train underwriters and underwriting assistants.
• Build relationships with producers and reinsurers; research new products and coverage forms.

Our Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter in Arizona or New Mexico. The candidate is required to reside within this territory or in proximity to our Gilbert, AZ Headquarters.

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $154,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be Ready To

• working in partnership with producers and an assigned underwriting assistant to solicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business
• determine individual risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions
• develop, analyze and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks
• achieve production and loss ratio goals within assigned regional territory
• work independently with a high level of authority and judgment
• determine need for and secure appropriate reinsurance on individual accounts
• mentor and train underwriters and underwriting assistants
• develop successful business relationships with producers and reinsurers
• research new products and coverage forms
• travel within assigned territory which may include some overnight stays

Be Equipped With

• property and casualty underwriting experience
• proficient use of Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook

• a valid driver’s license. Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check, because the position may include a company vehicle

Bring Education Or Experience From

• bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience
• 5+ years of experience working with commercial lines property and casualty products is required
• prior excess and surplus casualty underwriting experience with a carrier, broker, or MGA is preferred
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred
• candidates with a carrier background will be given preference; complete training is provided in Cincinnati, OH, prior to deployment to regional territory
