Job summary

Cincinnati Insurance Company is seeking an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter to join our team in the Midwest region. The role involves working closely with producers and an underwriting assistant to underwrite and price surplus lines commercial property and casualty business, with authority to determine price, terms and conditions.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years of P&C underwriting experience, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent E&S

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or extensive E&S underwriting experience.
• 5+ years of commercial lines P&C underwriting experience.
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred.
• Carrier background candidates will be given preference; training in Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities

• Solicit, underwrite, and price new and renewal surplus lines business.
• Determine risk acceptability, pricing, terms and conditions.
• Develop, analyze and evaluate information for complex risks.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals within regional territory.
• Travel within assigned territory.

Our Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter in Michigan. The candidate is required to reside within this territory or in proximity to our Fairfield, OH Headquarters.

The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $140,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be ready to

• working in partnership with producers and an assigned underwriting assistant tosolicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business
• determine individual risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions
• develop, analyze and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks
• achieve production and loss ratio goals within assigned regional territory
• work independently with a high level of authority and judgment
• determine need for and secure appropriate reinsurance on individual accounts
• mentor and train underwriters and underwriting assistants
• develop successful business relationships with producers and reinsurers
• research new products and coverage forms
• travel within assigned territory which may include some overnight stays

Be equipped with

• property and casualty underwriting experience
• proficient use of Microsoft® Word, Excel and Outlook

• a valid driver's license. Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check, because the position may include a company vehicle

Bring education or experience from

• bachelor's degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience
• 5+ years of experience working with commercial lines property and casualty products is required
• prior excess and surplus casualty underwriting experience with a carrier, broker, or MGA is preferred
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred
• candidates with a carrier background will be given preference; complete training is provided in Cincinnati, OH, prior to deployment to regional territory
