Job summary

The Cincinnati Insurance Companies in Pennsylvania is seeking an experienced Excess & Surplus Lines Underwriter to join our team. The role focuses on underwriting surplus lines, pricing, and working with producers and underwriting assistants to manage complex risks in the Pittsburgh area.

Ideal candidates have property and casualty underwriting experience, 5+ years in the field, and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or extensive underwriting experience in excess and surplus lines.
• 5+ years of experience with commercial lines property and casualty products.
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred.

Responsibilities

• Solicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business.
• Determine risk acceptability, pricing, coverage, terms and conditions.
• Develop, analyze and evaluate information and exposures for complex risks.
• Achieve production and loss ratio goals within the regional territory.
• Work independently with authority and judgment.
• Determine need for and secure appropriate reinsurance on accounts.
• Mentor and train underwriters and assistants.
• Develop relationships with producers and reinsurers.
• Research new products and coverage forms.
• Travel within territory; some overnight stays may be required.

The Cincinnati Specialty Underwriters Insurance Company has an immediate opening for an experienced excess and surplus lines underwriter in Pennsylvania. The candidate is required to reside within this territory or in proximity to our Fairfield, OH Headquarters.

Salary: The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $140,000 annually. The pay determination is based on the applicant’s education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.

Be Ready To

• working in partnership with producers and an assigned underwriting assistant to solicit, underwrite and price new and renewal surplus lines commercial property and casualty business

• travel within assigned territory which may include some overnight stays

Be Equipped With

• a valid driver’s license. Final candidates will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record background check, because the position may include a company vehicle

Bring Education Or Experience From

• bachelor’s degree or extensive relevant excess and surplus lines underwriting experience
• 5+ years of experience working with commercial lines property and casualty products is required
• prior excess and surplus casualty underwriting experience with a carrier, broker, or MGA is preferred
• ASLI or CPCU designations preferred
• candidates with a carrier background will be given preference; complete training is provided in Cincinnati, OH, prior to deployment to regional territory
