Job summary

State of Louisiana seeks a qualified Special Education Teacher with a Louisiana certificate and 5+ years of experience to develop IEPs and provide consultative support across districts. The role requires travel statewide and collaboration with schools, families, and agencies.

The candidate will participate in eligibility decisions, model best practices in IEPs, and help align data for reporting and compliance with ADA and state standards.

Qualifications

• Valid Louisiana teacher’s certificate with certification in special education.
• Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in Special Education or related field.
• Ability to drive a car and/or ride in a vehicle for extended periods.
• Statewide travel is required.

Responsibilities

• Provides consultation and direct services such as developing Individual Education Plans (IEP); in‑service training and consultation concerning intervention strategies, referrals and follow‑up; collecting and compiling data as needed for reports.
• Serves as a facilitator at IEP conferences and as a liaison between programs, other agencies and evaluation teams to arrange for placement of children.
• Advocates for students with appropriate personnel and/or agencies.
• Provides training to staff on IEP development and other special education topics; works with the Department of Education to stay abreast of changes in special education and the IEP protocol.
• Participates in special education eligibility determination and IEP staffing, when appropriate.
• Works with the school, district and community stakeholders reviewing data from multiple sources to establish standards, monitor progress, and foster student growth.
• Implements, develops, and monitors research findings and strategies for using data to develop and maintain district/school vision.

• Serves as a facilitator at IEP conferences and as a liaison between programs, other agencies and evaluation teams to arrange for placement of children.
• Advocates for students with appropriate personnel and/or agencies.
• Provides training to staff on IEP development and other special education topics; and works closely with the Department of Education to stay abreast of changes in special education and the IEP protocol.
• Participates in special education eligibility determination and IEP staffing, when appropriate.
• Works with the school, district and other community stakeholders reviewing data from multiple sources to establish challenging standards, monitor progress, and foster the continuous growth of the students.
• Implements, develops, and monitors relevant research findings and strategies for using data to develop and maintain the district and school vision.
• Uses data management and monitoring knowledge and skills to maintain focus on developing learning experiences that will enable students to prosper in subsequent grades and as adults.
• Identifies, monitors and manages essential elements of the district/school data systems such as: connecting data across key databases using student IDs; measuring student growth using student-level enrollment, demographic and program participation information technology to match individual students' test records year to year; examining information on untested students and the reasons why they were not tested; matching teachers to students using data information; gathering and studying student-level transcript information, college readiness test scores, graduation data, etc.
• Creates and maintains data systems to track compliance issues, services to students, etc.
