Job summary

The Roger Bacon Academy in North Carolina seeks an Exceptional Education Teacher Assistant to support the lead teacher in a classroom of students with disabilities. You will perform clerical tasks, assist with instruction, monitor safety, and help create materials tailored to student needs.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; focus in education or related field encouraged.
• Experience with children with disabilities desired.
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Ability to perform clerical duties.
• Ability to operate common office machines.
• Ability to maintain basic files and records.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Physical ability to lift 20 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Assists classroom and EC teachers with academic and student behaviors, may lead small groups.
• Supports teacher with housekeeping, clerical duties and repair/maintenance of equipment.
• Stays aware of classroom routines, safety policies, and emergency procedures.
• Obtains and maintains Crisis Intervention certification.
• Maintains knowledge of instruction adaptation methods and confidentiality rules.
• Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating effectiveness.
• Monitors safety and student wellbeing; encourages independence.
• Maintains records of student progress and completes incident reports.
