Job summary

The Roger Bacon Academy seeks a Teacher Assistant to support the Content Teacher in preparing students to master the curriculum and to help them develop socially. The role is a 10-month position based in Wilmington, NC, reporting to the Headmaster and supporting classroom and school operations.

Responsibilities include assisting with instruction, supervising students, communicating with parents, and handling routine clerical tasks.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or two years of college credits required; focus in education and early childhood development preferred.
• Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
• Ability to perform clerical duties.
• Ability to operate common office machines.
• Ability to maintain basic files and records.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Content Teacher in preparing students to master the curriculum and achieve passing scores on standardized tests.
• Teach a resource class (e.g. art, p.e., music, computer lab).
• Assist with morning drop-off and afternoon pickup.
• Communicate with parents as needed.
• Monitor students during class and on the playground to keep them on task and safe.
• Grade papers and record grades as directed by the teacher.
• Assist with field trips, school pictures, immunization forms, and related paperwork.
