Qualifications

• Valid teaching certificate in North Carolina or ability to obtain one.
• Alternatives to the above qualifications may be found appropriate and acceptable by the Board.

Responsibilities

• Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs and abilities of students.
• Creates a conducive classroom environment for learning.
• Guides learning toward curriculum goals with clear objectives.
• Employs appropriate instructional methods and materials.
• Assesses student progress and provides reports as required.
• Counsels with colleagues, students, and/or parents; assists general education teachers with IEP implementation.
• Assists administration with policies and classroom rules; maintains order and fair discipline.
• Plans and supervises teacher assistants and evaluates their performance.
• Follows required paperwork and meetings for students with disabilities.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Coordinates required meetings for caseload and participates in staff meetings.

Education

Valid North Carolina teaching certificate
