Job Title: EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN (EC) DEPARTMENT - Teacher Assistant for Visual Impairments

Salary: $16.45/hr

Benefits: Full benefits including paid holidays, sick leave, annual leave, holiday pay, health insurance, and retirement. Local supplement of 5.5% starts the month after the first year. State longevity after 10 years of service.

Qualifications:

• All applicants must be designated as “Highly Qualified”: 48 college credits or 7 credits in core subjects and passing WorkKeys scores.
• Experience or training demonstrating ability to assist students with visual impairments.
• Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

Reports To: Principal and/or assigned classroom teacher.

Job Goal: To provide specialized assistance to visually impaired and blind students, supporting access to learning materials, physical needs, social-emotional support, and other relevant areas during the instructional day.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Assist students with visual impairments in accessing curriculum and understanding instructional concepts, under the guidance of teachers and specialists.
• Prepare teaching materials, monitor equipment, manage behavior, and support IEP goals.
• Adapt print materials and assist with supplementary instructional aids.
• Collaborate with teachers on curriculum design, data collection, and student needs.
• Maintain confidentiality and perform physical assistance as needed.
• Participate in training and staff development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: Ten-month school year; schedule determined by the Principal; salary per schedule.

Evaluation: Conducted per Board policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
