Job summary

Avery County Schools in Newland, North Carolina is seeking an Exceptional Children's Teacher. The EC Teacher will plan, organize and present instruction for students with exceptional needs, under the supervision of the Principal and EC Director.

The position is full-time with optional benefits (Health, Dental, Vision, Life available for purchase). Salary is based on the NC DPI salary scale plus local supplement. Start date is August 1, 2026. Contact Kathy Benfield for HR details.

Qualifications

• Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
• Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in an area other than education will be considered but would have to complete residency requirements within the first three years of employment.

• Major Function: Instructional Feedback with prompt, constructive responses to student work.
• Major Function: Facilitating Instruction using diagnostic data to develop objectives and tasks.
• Major Function: Interacting Within the Educational Environment treating all students fairly.
• Major Function: Performing Non-Instructional Duties and ongoing professional development.
