Job Description
Excel Tutoring gives students additional time with a caring, skilled adult to work on the literacy or math skills and concepts that will help them be more successful in grade-level learning. Tutors work with a consistent small group of no more than four students and receive paid preparation time and instructional support.
Tutors provide focused, relationship-based small-group instruction in literacy or math. Working with a consistent group of up to four students, tutors use district-aligned approaches and materials to respond to students’ identified learning needs, build confidence, and strengthen access to grade-level learning.
What you will do:
- Plan and facilitate small-group tutoring sessions in literacy or math for a consistent group of up to four students, using district-approved instructional materials and approaches.
- Build strong relationships with students and create a welcoming, engaging tutoring environment where students feel known, supported, and successful.
- Collaborate with the Lead Tutor (literacy/math coach) to review student data, understand the group’s priority learning needs, plan tutoring sessions, and monitor academic progress.
- Use research-based literacy or math practices aligned with district approaches and priorities, including clear modeling, purposeful practice, questioning, feedback, and checks for understanding.
- Use student work and brief checks for understanding to monitor progress and adjust instruction with support from the Lead Tutor.
- Maintain required student attendance and brief session records in the district-designated system.
- Share student progress with families and caregivers in coordination with the Lead Tutor and school-based tutoring team.
- Participate in required preparation, professional learning, and coaching or feedback throughout the session.
- Tutors are responsible for direct instruction. The Lead Tutor provides instructional guidance and coaching, while the Site Coordinator supports the day-to-day operations of the program.
