Job summary

Job description

Position Purpose

As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing claims, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran and helps positively impact each Veteran’s care.

Pay Rate

Base + Incentive: $136,864.00 - $166,864.00 per year

Job Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing functional impact.
  • Review and analyze medical records and diagnostic test results to build a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s condition.
  • Render objective, evidence‑based medical opinions regarding the extent of the Veteran’s health issues and impact on work and daily activities.
  • Work within the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
  • Coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information as needed.
  • Document findings accurately in medical opinions and recommendations, following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Loyal Source departments to utilize resources and meet deadlines for optimal performance.
  • Manage time effectively, and submit and confirm availability for all C&P exams.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations.
  • Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements.
  • Safeguard confidentiality of patient information and examination results, and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
  • Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Valid and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in all U.S. states and territories.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in conducting medical disability examinations.
  • Basic Life Support certification (renewed).
  • Preferred: Prior military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities.
  • Specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations or related fields.
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based opinions.
  • Compassionate, empathetic approach toward patients.
  • Strong analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commitment to ethical standards, objectivity, and fairness.
  • Detail‑oriented with focus on accuracy and data quality.

Technological Ability

Competent with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, electronic medical record systems, Teams, and web‑based learning management systems.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk while working on a computer. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds, see, hear, smell, bend, stretch, and engage in full range of motion to safely conduct examinations.

Travel Requirements

10% travel required to support other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.
