Job summary

ChristianaCare Health System is seeking an Environmental Services Assistant II for the Evening shift (3pm–11:30pm) in Newark, DE. You will support patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory compliance while performing advanced cleaning and specialized floor/carpet care in our healthcare facilities.

The role emphasizes leadership in environmental services, PPE use, and timely response to service requests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• Minimum of one year housekeeping experience (preferred).
• Floor care experience (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform all responsibilities of Environmental Services Assistant I (environmental cleaning, disinfection, waste management, infection prevention, customer service, regulatory compliance).
• Independently clean and disinfect patient rooms, isolation rooms, procedural areas, clinical spaces, and high-touch surfaces per infection prevention standards.
• Use healthcare-grade disinfectants, cleaning chemicals, dilution systems, and PPE safely and effectively.
• Support initiatives to reduce healthcare-associated infections and improve patient experience.
• Maintain Environmental Services carts, closets, storage areas, and equipment in clean, organized, and stocked condition.
• Restock supplies throughout the facility.
• Collect, transport, and dispose of trash, regulated medical waste, recyclables, infectious waste, soiled linen, etc.
• Respond to department communications and service requests using department tech and platforms.
• Identify and report safety hazards, environmental issues, and infection prevention risks.
• Operate floor care equipment: auto scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors, wet vacuums, ride-on machines.
• Perform floor maintenance: scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, recoating, buffing, burnishing, polishing.
• Perform carpet care: spot treatment, extraction cleaning, stain removal, odor mitigation, deep cleaning.
• Assess floor/carpet conditions and select appropriate methods and chemicals.
• Troubleshoot equipment and perform preventive maintenance.
• Provide guidance and onboarding support to team members on floor care and equipment.
• Deliver exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and colleagues.
• Promote patient experience through professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
• Demonstrate empathy, teamwork, and accountability.
