Responsibilities
  • Under supervision of the environmental services manager, maintain environmental and infection control standards within established policies and procedures of the health care facility. Assignments include cleaning patient rooms (occupied and unoccupied), public areas, surgical areas, and additional areas as assigned, stocking supplies, and cleaning and maintaining equipment.
  • Provide service to both internal and external customers and follow standard practices and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements. Receive working instructions; work is frequently audited for accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Perform work while standing, sitting, walking, lifting or pushing supplies and equipment; frequently reach, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and stand on a stepladder up to four feet. Work may involve confined spaces, electrical equipment, stairs, and occasional exposure to risk of injury. Ability to maintain good balance and work in emergency or crisis situations is required. Personal protective equipment (gloves, eye protection, face protection, shoe covers) may be required.
  • Perform all cleaning functions involved in daily general cleaning of patient rooms, operating rooms, ancillary area, patient‑related areas, and departmental general areas, following the system’s ten steps of cleaning as defined in the Environmental Services Department Manual.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies per CDC, OSHA, EPA, the Joint Commission, and internal procedures.
  • Follow all isolation procedures in isolation and contact plus rooms.
  • Detail clean vents, fan fixtures, tops of windows, door frames, wall art, bumpers, furniture, and other areas as necessary.
  • Clean public areas such as lobbies, waiting rooms, restrooms, elevators, utility rooms, exam rooms, offices, stairwells, and other assigned areas.
  • Collect and replace all sharps and black pharmacy box containers in patient care areas.
  • Document and maintain records of assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Restock supplies in assigned areas as needed.
  • Communicate information and requests to registered nurses and/or patient care assistants as appropriate.
  • Provide exceptional service to patients, staff, families, and visitors while maintaining confidentiality of patient and unit data per HIPAA regulations.
  • Remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas and transport to the disposal area.
  • Keep work areas neat and orderly, clean equipment, and assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Operate mechanical floor equipment such as IMOPs, vacuums, sweepers, and other related equipment as needed.
  • Clean equipment and store in assigned locations.
  • Direct visitors as necessary.
  • Collect trays from patient rooms when required.
  • Coordinate cleaning activities with the department coordinator as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for own growth and development; attend regular staff meetings.
  • Actively participate and support the Bronson Management System by attending huddles and adopting problem‑solving methods.
  • Operate ultraviolet (UV) disinfection equipment (Surfacide UV Robot) – *BBC Only.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned, which may include using the trash compactor and emptying trash and linen chutes.
Special Responsibilities (for BBC & BLH only)
  • May do laundry.
  • Collect, label, and organize all Biomedical Waste for pickup by the waste hauler.
  • Collect, transport, and take all recycling to a compactor or common dumpster.
  • Transport waste to appropriate compactor or outside dumpster as needed.
  • Change privacy curtains when needed.
  • Round, inspect, and maintain all assigned areas within the scope of the facility, including lab work areas, offices, restrooms, waiting areas, patient procedure rooms, stairwells, receiving dock, ambulatory storage, EVS closets, BIO storage rooms, recycling areas inside and outside, elevator landing, elevator interior and exterior, and elevator tracks.
  • Use and maintain all assigned floor‑care machinery, including auto scrubbers, corded and battery‑powered vacuums, iMop, burnishers, and side‑by‑side scrubbers.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong verbal and written English communication skills at or above the 8th‑grade level with departmental staff and internal and external customers.
  • Interpersonal skills that represent Bronson in a positive and professional manner.
  • Excellent customer‑service, thoroughness, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to comfortably accept delegation and negotiate task priorities.
