Job summary

Yuma County is recruiting for an Evidence Technician in the Sheriff's Office to process and control law enforcement property and evidence under general supervision. Salary will be determined by education and experience at the time of offer, posted from the minimum to the mid-point hourly rate.

Responsibilities

• Receives property and evidence, and reviews packaging and documentation
• Verifies compliance with state laws and Sheriff's Office policies and procedures
• Verifies computer data entry and hard copy receipt of evidence received
• Catalogs, tags, labels, packages, documents and stores submitted property and evidence
• Maintains and secures chain-of-custody
• Makes accurate comparisons of items using serial numbers or descriptive features
• Ensures hazardous materials evidence is properly handled, contained, stored, transported, tested and disposed
• Maintains biological evidence in temperature-controlled refrigerators and freezers
• Audits items against information in multi-agency computer systems for stolen, wanted, or owner information
• Verifies stolen weapons through national/state crime information systems
• Maintains records to support property and evidence functions
• Manages secure transmittal/receipt of evidence between locations and to the State Department of Public Safety for analysis
• Exhibits initiative and discretion in security and issuance of property and evidence
• Instructs law enforcement personnel on evidential property control procedures
• Maintains release records and records disposition of property and evidence
• Destroys contraband or property as required by policy and law
• Assists in inventory audits to safeguard and account for stored items
• May testify in court on chain-of-custody for property and evidence
• Represents the Office at committees and intergovernmental projects
• Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and investigations
• Regular and reliable attendance is required
• Performs other duties as assigned
