Job summary

Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in San Francisco seeks a specialized evidence management professional to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug and drug evidence and stockpiles for the field office.

Qualifications

• GS-9: One full year of qualifying specialized experience at the GS-07 level or education to qualify.
• Education: Master’s degree or two years of graduate study; or LL.B./J.D. if related.
• Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify as long as the percentage is at least 100%.
• GS-11: One full year of qualifying specialized experience at the GS-09 level or education to qualify.
• Education: Ph.D. or three full academic years of graduate study; or LL.M., if related.
• Combination of education and experience may be used to qualify as long as the percentage is at least 100%.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring evidence is appropriately documented, packaged, stored, and accounted for.
• Preparing and retrieving quarterly and annual reports for accountability and reconciliation of seized evidence.
• Coordinating with individuals who have evidence management responsibilities across Field Divisions.
• Maintaining files and paperwork while monitoring all division evidence inventory levels and movement using systems.

Education

Master's or equivalent graduate degree

Two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

Job description

This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), San Francisco Field Division. This position(s) primary purpose is to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence, drug evidence, bulk drug evidence, and/or stockpiles for a Field Office.

Applicants applying for the GS-9 must meet one of the following requirements:

A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-07 grade level.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

4. 4) Maintaining files and processes paperwork while monitoring all division evidence inventory levels and movement using manual or computer automated systems.

Education:

Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree -or- two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements:

A. Have at least one full year of qualifying specialized experience that is at least equivalent in difficulty and complexity to work performed at the GS-09 grade level.

1. 1) Strategizing procedures, and methods for cataloging, maintaining, tracking, and reporting evidence activities and other administrative matters


2. 2) Preparing and retrieving a variety of quarterly and annual reports for accountability and reconciliation of seized evidence


3. 3) Maintaining a record system to document and maintain a log of precise location and activity of all evidence charged out to authorized personnel


4. 4) Gathering data for analysis and information sharing (e.g., queries or formats data); Assisting with on-site inspections in the division and reporting offices and documents or consolidates reports for submission to the Special Agent


5. 5) Coordinates and briefs selected personnel on procedures for conducting annual physical inventory of all non-drug evidence

Education:

Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -or- three (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience:

A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
