A Journeyman Rigger has a minimum of four (4) years of heavy industrial experience as a Rigger (including helper training) and is skilled in all aspects of safe rigging procedure. Experienced in advanced rigging practices, to lift and move equipment or material on construction sites.

Overview Of Primary Duties

  • Loads, transports, unloads, and assists in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to the weight and size of the load to be moved.
  • Attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms with bolts and clamps
  • Attaches load with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook.
  • Gives direction to crane operator or hoisting engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure the safety of workers and material handled using hand signals, loudspeaker, two-way radio, or telephone
  • Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
  • Can tie various knots.
  • Assembles and disassembles cranes. Splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
  • Performs minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment

    • Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work Practices
    • Report all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.
    • Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.
    • Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.
    • Participate in workplace inspections.
    • Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.
    • Participate in required and assigned training.
    • Provide suggestions to improve Safety.
    • Present a mature approach to working safely.
    • Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.
  • Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.
  • This is not an all-inclusive list of tasks an employee may be asked to do. Employees are expected to complete any tasks they are assigned.
Qualifications

Level III:

  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related rigging experience
  • NCCER Rigger journeyman certification Level II:
  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related rigging experience
  • NCCER “Performance” Rigger journeyman verification
  • Other verified experiences or certifications with ironworker experience Level I:
  • Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related rigging experience

Requirements

  • Must have the ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation
  • Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
  • Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

  • All weather conditions at varying temperatures

  • The project site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools
  • Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
  • Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
  • Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
  • Ability to talk and hear to communicate
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
