Job Summary:

A Journeyman Rigger has a minimum of four (4) years of heavy industrial experience as a Rigger (including helper training) and is skilled in all aspects of safe rigging procedures. They are experienced in advanced rigging practices to lift and move equipment or materials on construction sites.

Primary Duties:

  1. Load, transport, unload, and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves based on load weight and size.
  2. Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures using bolts and clamps.
  3. Attach loads with grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hooks.
  4. Direct crane operators or hoisting engineers during lifting operations to ensure safety, using hand signals, loudspeakers, radios, or telephones.
  5. Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment with hand tools and power wrenches.
  6. Tie various knots as needed.
  7. Assemble and disassemble cranes; splice ropes and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackles.
  8. Perform minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.
  9. Demonstrate Yates Core Values and Principles.
  10. Follow Yates Code of Conduct.
  11. Safety Responsibilities: Responsible for refusing unsafe work, following safety procedures, reporting incidents and hazards, wearing PPE, advising colleagues on hazards, participating in inspections and training, and suggesting safety improvements.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned by Field Supervision. Employees are expected to complete any tasks assigned to them.

Qualifications:

Level III:

  • At least four (4) years of heavy industrial rigging experience.
  • NCCER Rigger Journeyman Certification Level II or equivalent verification.
  • Experience or certifications with ironworker experience Level I.

Requirements:

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and documentation.
  • Personal hand tools as per Yates Minimum Tool List.
  • Successful completion of safety training including Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights.

Physical Demands:

This role requires working in all weather conditions, at varying elevations, in windy and dusty environments, with moderate to high noise levels. It involves operating equipment, wearing safety harnesses at heights, and physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and communicating effectively. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and use vision for focus, distance, color, and depth perception is essential.
