Job summary

Crossroads School is seeking a general laborer to support the Facilities Department at the Santa Monica campus. The role involves setting up and taking down athletic equipment, moving gear, loading trucks, and assisting with daily maintenance tasks to keep gym and facilities in good order.

Mostly M-F from 7:00am to 12:30pm, the position is 27-29 hours per week and may require occasional additional hours or work at both campuses.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive school vehicles.
• Confident speaking and listening skills for interactions with students, parents and staff.
• Able to work unsupervised, complete tasks, and report progress to supervisor.
• English communication (spoken and written) is essential.
• Willingness to perform varied daily tasks and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Setup and takedown of athletic equipment (nets, chairs, scoreboard controls).
• Interact with players, coaches, parents, referees and provide guidance.
• Load and unload trucks and move school gear between rooms and storage.
• Dismantle/assemble gear and perform light repairs as needed.
• Set up/strike events (chairs, tables, AV gear, hospitality).
• Monitor and maintain gym facilities and equipment.
• General housekeeping: cleaning, disinfection, and spills.
• Wear staff shirt and use safety equipment as required.

Salary Range: $23.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Duties

• The setup and take down of athletic equipment such as volleyball nets, team chairs and scoreboard controls
• Interact with players, coaches, parents, referees and give direction/guidance where needed
• Able to complete any list or project set out by the Facilities Director, the Facilities Crew Managers (including Custodial) or Plant Maintenance Supervisors
• Loading and unloading trucks
• Moving furniture and other school gear between classrooms, offices and storage spaces
• Dismantling, assembling and making light repairs to various school gear
• Setting up and striking events – chairs, tables, AV gear, hospitality service etc.
• Monitoring, cleaning and maintaining gym, fitness equipment and facility gear
• General housekeeping such as sweeping, mopping, disinfecting surfaces, cleaning spills, power-washing and other such tasks

The Position

Mostly M-F 7:00am-12:30pm but might sometimes be asked for extra/varied hours with notice.

This job is a 27-29 hour a week commitment

Job Description

This job is a general laborer position, the tasks of which will change daily to meet the needs of the Crossroads School Facilities Department.

Qualifications

• A driver’s license with a clean abstract, ability and willingness to drive school vehicles (13-foot stake-bed trucks)
• Confident speaking AND listening skills are required for this often, frontline position that will regularly come into contact with students, parents and other school staff. Clearly spoken and written communication in English is key.
• Must be capable of working unsupervised with a list of tasks, complete them and then report back to supervisor to find out what is next. Work will be supervised at times and at other times, tasks will be done independently.
• Must possess the discipline and willingness to execute tasks even when one does not agree with or understand the reason or the larger scope of the project. A quality standard of work must be maintained in such instances and be carried out without complaint.
• Able to navigate computer essentials such as email, sourcing the web as well as basic functionality with other office programs as needed (or a willingness and capacity to learn them).
• Must have access to email/internet when away from work so as to receive and reply to essential communications.
• Able to work well with and among the diverse makeup of the School’s student and staff community. As a lead position, must actively strive to avoid contention, be willing and able to make amends, and to facilitate resolution when conflict arises among others.
• Work schedule will follow an agreed-upon pattern but this position has to be flexible with unforeseen schedule changes, with sufficient notice.
• Those filling this position are required to wear the provided Staff shirt at all times unless specifically stated otherwise by a supervisor. Additionally, some tasks will require safety-toed boots and/or dressy attire depending on the situation.
• Will be required to use personal protective equipment such as ear/eye/skin protection, protective footwear as well as any other equipment required for on-the-job safety.
• All school gear must be treated with the utmost care.
