Job summary

The City of New York's Mayor’s Office of Mass Engagement is seeking an Events Lead to coordinate and execute high-quality events that demystify government and foster public involvement.

You will oversee logistics, collaborate with partners, and guide staff and volunteers to ensure successful events that reflect the City’s commitment to accessibility and inclusivity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Associate degree plus two years of relevant administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison experience.
  • Four-year high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of relevant experience.
  • Satisfactory combination of education and/or experience as described.

Responsibilities

  • Support the production of engaging, purposeful events that build trust in government and encourage feedback.
  • Assist with event logistics, including location/vendor sourcing, supplies, staff training, and ticketing.
  • Coordinate day-of-event needs, supervise load-in/out, and manage on-site staff and volunteers.
  • Fulfilling other duties as required.

The Team You'll Work With:

The Mayor’s Office of Mass Engagement (OME) is responsible for strategizing, coordinating, and executing on engagement that reaches the masses of everyday New Yorkers. We engage New Yorkers in shaping policy outcomes, demystifying government, and ensuring that the government remains accountable to serving the people of this great City. Our work is designed as a long-term project - we are building the power of everyday New Yorkers, and we are building a City that works for all of us.

The Problems You'll Solve:

The Office of Mass Engagement Events Team is tasked with producing innovative, joyful, and highly professional events that help demystify government, provide on-ramps into organizing projects, and celebrate the cultural fabric of New York City. As an Events Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the production of purposeful, engaging events that build people's trust in government, build connections between New Yorkers, and create meaningful opportunities for feedback and follow-up.
  • Supporting event logistical production including location and vendor sourcing, supplies procurement, staff training, and guest ticketing.
  • Coordinating day-of-event needs including supervision and execution of load in/out and on-site staff and volunteers.
  • Other duties as required.
About You:

Event professionals come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences; there is no single course of study or expertise that is required to do well! You're most likely to succeed in this role if you are:

  • You are organized, meticulous, and don't get overwhelmed by many moving pieces.
  • You are oriented towards customer service or hospitality - you'll go out of your way to make sure a guest or participant has a great experience.
  • You are a creative problem-solver who views constraints as an opportunity instead of an obstacle.
  • You are curious and comfortable asking questions.
  • You may be especially well-suited to this role if you have experience in creative event production, theater/live performance events, training and facilitation, or hospitality.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Do you have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university?
  2. Do you have an associate degree from an accredited college or university along with two (2) years of experience with administrative, analytic, coordinative, supervisory or liaison responsibilities?
  3. Do you have a four-year high school diploma, or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization along with four (4) years of experience as described in question "2" above?
  4. Do you have a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that described in questions "1," "2," and/or "3" above?
Preferred Skills
  • You can stay calm under pressure, react quickly, and problem-solve in the event of an unexpected change of plans.
  • You have knowledge of New York City government is a plus.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of the interview.
