The Problems You’ll Solve

The Deputy Borough Director will:

  • Maintain key relationships and track high-level issues in the borough.
  • Work with other staff to help identify and maintain organizing opportunities in the borough.
  • Manage a team of people who are building layers of engagement throughout the borough.
  • Attend relevant civic, community board, and community meetings.
  • When relevant, ensure there is follow-up on constituent cases.
  • In emergency situations, Borough Deputy Directors might be asked to be on the scene to represent the Mayor’s Office. Emergency situations include, but are not limited to, blackouts, tragic deaths, high-profile crimes, fires where people are impacted, and water main breaks or street collapses where people are evacuated from their homes.
  • Coordinate with citywide liaisons to move Office of Mass Engagement initiatives forward with the borough team of organizers and specialists.
  • Providing additional support as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 3+ years of experience.

  • You can build and maintain a wide array of working relationships. - You have excellent management skills. - You can stay calm under pressure, including at public events, in case of emergencies. - You have an excellent eye for identifying and developing leadership.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
