Job description

The Event Support Specialist provides hands‑on operational and logistical support for events across campus/facilities. The roles is responsible for event set‑up and teardown, customer service during event, equipment handling, and real‑time problem solving to ensure events are executed safely, efficiently, and to the stakeholder’s expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support the execution of a wide variety of events including meetings, conferences, athletics, ceremonies, concerts, and special events.
  • Performs event set‑up, room conversions, and teardown according to event diagrams and timelines.
  • Transport, set‑up and maintain event equipment such as tables, chairs, staging, risers, pipe & drape, barricades, signage and tents.
  • Respond quickly to changes, issues or client request with events.
  • Model safe work practices, professionalism, and customer service expectations.
  • Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
  • Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.
Event Support Specialist Tier 1
  • Deliver, set‑up and breakdown materials as assigned.
  • Knowledgeable of facilities, event spaces and equipment.
  • Assist with other special tasks as assigned.
Event Support Specialist Tier 2
  • Inventory equipment and materials used to support University events.
  • Monitor conditions of equipment and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Operate pallet jacks and other material‑handling equipment necessary for transporting event materials.
  • Independently and accurately complete small‑scale work orders with minimal supervision.
  • Periodically serve as lead for small jobs, supervising one to two crew members.
  • Provide task direction, oversight and quality control for assigned crew members.
Event Support Lead
  • Provide leadership and direction to team members during event operations.
  • Train, mentor, and support new team members.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customers during event setup, execution, and breakdown.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining inventory systems for event equipment and materials.
  • Help maintain inventory accountability and report damaged, missing, or low‑stock items.
  • Assist leadership with planning and coordinating event logistics and operational needs.
  • Provide leadership in maintaining a safe, professional, and productive work environment.
  • Assist in improving operational efficiency and workflow processes within Event Support.
  • Maintain basic knowledge of event diagrams, layouts, and setup standards.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Event Support Tier 2 Will serve as secondary lead for small jobs, supervising one to two crew members.
  • Event Support Lead Will serve as primary lead for all jobs, supervising four to eight crew members.
  • Will serve as the point of contact while on event tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Event Support Specialist Tier 2 At least one-two years’ experience with leading others.
  • At least one-two years event management experience.
  • Event Support Lead At least two-three years’ experience with leading others.
  • At least two-three years’ event management experience.
ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES

Communication and Comprehension: Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well articulated information. Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner. Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University.

Problem Solving: Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.

Physical and Sensory Abilities: Frequently required to travel to campus locations and off campus locations. Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally. Frequently required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the campus and buildings. Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in to conduct business. Regularly lift 125 or fewer pounds.

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of these positions is both an indoor and outdoor setting.

Driving Requirements

Event Support Specialist Tier One: No driving requirements.

Event Support Specialist Tier Two: Use of LU vehicles is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.

Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

To obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.

Must be approved to operate ES vehicles up to a medium 16ft box truck.

Event Support Lead Use of LU vehicles is required for travel in the performance of the essential functions of this position.

Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

Location Onsite Pay Range

Pay Range Compensation is determined based on factors such as qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, along with University needs and external market conditions. Market benchmarks may be used, as appropriate, in combination with internal equity to ensure pay is fair and aligned with the broader compensation structure. The position may also be eligible for comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and tuition assistance.

$15.38 - $18.27
