Major Food Group LLC is seeking a part-time Event Sommelier for THE POOL in New York, NY. The role involves assisting guests with wine and champagne selections and guiding them through our menus and pricing.

Qualifications

• 2-4 years of experience as a Sommelier in upscale, high-volume setting.
• WSET certifications or equivalent preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of wine and wine service techniques.

Responsibilities

• Assist guests with wine, sake and champagne selection considering taste and budget.
• Provide information on venues, menus and pricing.
• Explain wine, sake or champagne pairings with food and desserts.
• Ensure wines and pouring techniques meet company standards.
• Inform guests of alternative selections if originally chosen item is unavailable.
• Provide engaged, friendly, attentive service to all guests.
• Maintain safety and comply with DOH and liquor board standards.
• Perform other duties as instructed by management.

Major Food Group is hiring part-time Sommelier to join our team at THEPOOL!

Situated in the landmarked Seagram Building, THE POOL has been home to New York's most storied parties and events for over half a century. With its soaring 20-foot ceilings, white-marble fountain, and shimmering chain curtains enveloping the walls, THE POOL is an iconic venue where the room itself is an occasion. Conveying mid-century elegance and fantastical grandeur in equal measure, THE POOL lends itself to a variety of configurations and is, simply put, the finest events space in all of New York City.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist guests with wine, sake and champagne selection, consider their taste and budget when guiding them through the menu
• Provide information to guests regarding our venues, menus and pricing
• Explain how our wines, sake or champagne menu compliments the items on our food and dessert menu
• Ensure all wines, sake and champagnes are presented and served correctly and all pouring techniques are adhered to as specified by company standards
• Inform and explain alternative wine, sake or champagne selections to guests should their choice be unavailable
• Provide engaged, friendly and attentive customer service to all guests
• Practice highest regards for safety within all areas and with all materials
• Follow and adhere to all standards set for by the Department of Health (DOH) and appropriate Federal/State Liquor Control Boards
• Perform all other duties as instructed by management

REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a Sommelier in an upscale, high volume restaurant
• WSET certifications preferred or certifications from another accredited wine institution preferred
• Extensive knowledge of wine and wine service techniques
• Availability to work nights, weekends & holidays
• A passion for providing exemplary guest service
