Job summary

Temple Shalom in Newton, MA seeks an Event & Program Coordinator to oversee event operations, inquiries, tours, contracts, calendars, and logistics for a busy congregation.

You will coordinate equipment, rentals, staffing, catering, and setup/breakdown, collaborate with all departments, and report to the Director of Operations and the Senior Director of Development & Membership.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years experience in event management.
  • Discretion at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills in person, in writing, and on the phone.
  • Exemplary planning and time management skills.
  • Comfort working with Google suite of applications and file management.
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate problems, and take initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Some knowledge of Jewish customs and the Jewish calendar is a major plus.

Responsibilities

  • Book and coordinate details for all external rentals.
  • Oversee event equipment inventory.
  • Collaborate with the Staff Lead on internal programs and events.
  • Coordinate catering for Internal Programs & Events.
  • Coordinate accommodator staffing for Programs & Events.
  • Create and update a photo presentation for prospective rentals.
  • Establish and oversee a preferred vendor list.
  • Interface with all outside vendors for all events.
  • Coordinate with rental groups including deliveries and pickups.
  • Manage Community Kiddush’s for all BMitzvahs (Saturdays).
  • Coordinate providing families with the recording of their BMitzvahs.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Operations and Clergy on funerals.
  • Shop and set up for Friday night Oneg.
  • Support large Jewish Holiday events (High Holy Days, Purim, Passover, Chanukkah).

Temple Shalom is a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation in Newton, MA of 600 families. Our program and school calendars are full, and our members enjoy participating in a wide variety of activities and worship experiences.

This role will oversee event operations including managing inquiries, tours, contracts, calendars, logistics and other administrative tasks related to events and programs at Temple Shalom. The Event & Program Coordinator will coordinate equipment, rentals, set up/break down, staffing and more. The role will collaborate with all departments on internal events and will report directly to the Director of Operations & Senior Director of Development & Membership.

The Event & Program Coordinator will play an essential role in the efficient and successful work of our community and work in partnership with other colleagues. They will have significant interactions with Temple Shalom congregants and will be expected to be a positive and professional representative of the Temple Shalom staff.

Compensation and Benefits
  • $60,000-62,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Health Insurance (Temple Shalom contributes to the monthly premium), currently subsidized at 73% by Temple Shalom.
  • Vacation, starting at 10 days per year, and increasing with term of employment
  • All federal holidays and most Jewish holidays..
