Job summary

Temple Beth El (Charlotte) seeks an Engagement and Programming Coordinator to foster belonging and meaningful community experiences within our Reform Jewish congregation. You’ll support programs, coordinate volunteers, and help members get involved in a collaborative, supportive environment.

In this role you’ll plan events, manage communications, track participation, and partner with staff and lay leaders to translate initiatives into active engagement across cohorts and committees.

Qualifications

  • At least two years in community engagement, programming, or related fields.
  • Ability to build trust across diverse groups.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent project management capabilities.
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, WordPress, CRM systems, and social media; data analysis capabilities preferred.
  • Understanding of Jewish culture and traditions is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Congregational Life in developing engagement strategies.
  • Build relationships with members and volunteers.
  • Plan and support congregational events and community initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Communications team to ensure accurate publicity for events.
  • Share program stories and content for social media.
  • Liaise with assigned groups to prepare materials and track follow-up.
  • Ensure programming needs are communicated effectively.
  • Represent Temple Beth El in community initiatives as needed.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development.

Overview

Temple Beth El, a vibrant Reform Jewish congregation, is seeking an Engagement and Programming Coordinator to foster connection, belonging, and meaningful community experiences. This role is integral in transforming programs into pathways for engagement, volunteers into dedicated partners, and members into an actively involved community.

The Opportunity

As our community continues to grow, we’re committed to investing in the people and systems that help our members feel known and connected. The Engagement and Programming Coordinator will support congregational programs, enhance volunteer coordination, and assist in member engagement, ensuring that each initiative is well‑planned, communicated, and executed.

What Success Looks Like

In the first year, the successful candidate will:

  • Strengthen Engagement: Help new and existing members navigate programs and services, ensuring they feel welcomed and connected.
  • Support Programming: Coordinate logistics, communications, and follow-up for congregational events in collaboration with staff and lay leaders.
  • Build Volunteer Culture: Recruit, schedule, and maintain relationships with volunteers to ensure effective engagement.
  • Utilize Data and Tools: Leverage engagement tools to track participation and inform decision-making.
  • Support Community Groups: Act as a liaison for assigned cohorts and committees, assisting with communication and momentum.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.
Work Environment and Requirements
  • Primarily office-based with some outdoor event work.
  • Regular use of office equipment and ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: $40,000 - $50,000/year, based on experience.
