Job summary

Nashville Business Journal is seeking an Events Director to own the strategy, planning, and success of NBJ events in the Nashville market. The role collaborates with publishers, leadership, and advertising teams across departments to deliver high-quality events that drive client growth and market presence.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of events experience, strong budgeting skills, and proven ability to manage both in-person and virtual events.

Qualifications

  • College degree or comparable work experience is required.
  • 3–5 years of experience preferred in events or related roles.
  • Must be able to function in a virtual environment and lead virtual meetings/events (Zoom/TEAMS/WebEx).

Responsibilities

  • Own strategy and success of NBJ events, including budgeting and planning.
  • Identify opportunities to grow events and partnerships with clients and leadership.
  • Plan, negotiate contracts, and manage timelines and sponsors.
  • Collaborate with publishers, leadership, and ad teams across departments.
  • Lead virtual events and ensure quality in both in-person and online formats.

Job description

Nashville Business Journal is excited to hire a strategic minded Events Director on our team! We are fast paced, team oriented, and collaborative group that partners with our clients and engages our local communities where we live and work.

This individual is responsible for owning the strategy and success of NBJ events. This includes the following:

  • Identify opportunities for events that support our client's growth and overall market presence.
  • Plan and strategize NBJ Events, including new events and improving existing events.
  • Make recommendations and partner with local leadership and advertising teams in planning events.
  • Be an active member of the local management team advocating for your department as well as the overall market success.
  • Collaborate with other local managers and department teams throughout the event planning process.
  • Continuous updates to Publisher and leadership team regarding activities.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with members of all other departments for events.
  • Be an active member of the Nashville business community to elevate and grow NBJ brand and event quality.
  • Individual will be responsible for budget related to event recommendations and budget in partnership with sales team to meet event success (P&L)
  • Majority of NBJ events occur weekdays during business hours, however, there will be some evening events where Event team members are expected to plan/participate.

Job Responsibilities

Event Ownership, Planning & Management:

  • Events can be In-Person or Virtual and ability to manage the below items in either environment is a key skill and capability
  • Prepare detailed budgets and forecasts of event attendance, income and expenses.
  • Gather, compare & present price quotes for all event related expenses.
  • Select site, caterer, accessories, and other vendors.
  • Negotiate and sign contracts for services rendered.
  • Develop detailed timelines for each event.
  • Determine and communicate staff and client responsibilities.
  • Individual is responsible for choregraphing and managing event day.
  • In partnership with market publisher select and schedule event speaker/presentation and sponsor program participants.
  • Script sponsor presentations and main program.
  • Manage ticket sales through the online registration process and oversee attendance lists.
  • Develop relationships with outside vendors i.e., hotels, restaurants, caterers, audio visual companies, florists etc. Utilize vendor trades whenever possible to assure we produce a high-quality event with the lowest possible cash outlay. Track trade schedules to assure dollar for dollar completion of contract.
  • Prepare pre and post event promotions through house ads, direct mail, and broadcast e-mails to attendees. Assist with proofreading of all promotional material, advertising, and event program to maintain integrity and image of PSBJ brand.
  • Prepare & present post-event analysis including invoicing approval, spreadsheet summary of expenses, rsvp's, attendance list, and no-shows.
  • Organize and facilitate sponsor meetings as necessary.
  • Gather sponsor bios and company promos for event recognition.
  • Ensure sponsor deliverables are addressed throughout the event process.
  • Assist advertising team during sales process to ensure potential events are clearly communicated to meet the client's needs.
  • Provide creative recommendations for sponsors and on-site event activations.

Professional Development:

The Events Director should participate in all applicable training offered by ACBJ and the business unit. In addition, individual is encouraged participate in at least one external training opportunity each year, as agreed upon with the Publisher.

Other:

All team members should be prepared to assist with any other task requested by the Publisher.

Salary Range

$100,000 - $115,000 (salary + bonus)
