Job summary

Michigan State University is seeking an MSU Event Custodian to work in event buildings before and after events. The role offers 20-32 hours per week with varied shifts such as 5 pm–11 pm, 10 pm–2 am, 1 am–5 am, 4 pm–10 pm, and similar times.

This limited-term position runs hire through May 2027 and involves cleaning, maintenance, and interaction with university staff and students. Training and adherence to safety guidelines are essential.

Qualifications

• Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license.
• Frequent lifting of over 75 pounds is required.
• Clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Removing Trash.
• Dusting.
• Vacuuming.
• Mopping.
• Disinfecting restrooms.
• These positions will perform cleaning and maintenance activities; understands and gives verbal or written instructions.
• Reads chemical, biological, or radioactive warning signs.
• Removes snow with a shovel or snow blower.
• Retains training information required for custodial methods, equipment, and products.
• Works with student employees and communicates and interacts with the University community.
• Serves as a liaison with the Department of Public Safety.
• Maintains product inventory.
• Makes independent decisions to accomplish acceptable cleaning standards using appropriate methods, products, and equipment.
• This position will engage in high-performing, leading-edge practices, valuing people, partners, and stewardship.
