Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System is seeking a Catering Assistant to support all catering operations across facilities. Under supervision, you will coordinate, prepare, set up, deliver, serve, and breakdown catered events while ensuring exceptional service and food safety standards.

You will liaise between Food & Nutrition Services and internal customers, assist with event planning, equipment maintenance, and inventory, and help ensure meetings, conferences, and hospital functions run

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent; training provided by department.
2–3 years catering and/or cooking experience.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and support staff.
Strong planning, organizational, and numerical skills.

Responsibilities

Coordinate and deliver catered events ensuring setup before guest arrival.
Assist with planning menu selections, service styles, equipment, and staffing.
Prepare event sheets, service orders, and related documentation.
Assist in setup, service, and breakdown of catered events throughout the organization.
Coordinate room setup with Environmental Services and other departments.
Verify orders for accuracy and communicate changes appropriately.
Maintain inventory and proper storage of catering equipment and supplies.
