Houston Astros, LLC is seeking a part-time Event Captain in the Special Events department to act as the on-site day-of contact for clients and to coordinate with internal operations teams at Daikin Park.

You will read event sheets to determine setup, timelines, and guest needs; ensure the venue is prepared with correct room setup, A/V, security, and parking; greet clients; supervise setup and breakdown; collaborate with vendors; and uphold ballpark policies to ensure a safe, positive experience.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in a client-facing, customer service role.
  • Fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude while handling difficult situations.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Experience in events, hospitality or service industry preferred.

Responsibilities

The Houston Astros’ Special Events department oversees and manages events, meetings, and conferences at Daikin Park. The part-time Event Captain role supports the Event Operators as the onsite, day-of contact for clients, ensuring a successful event by serving as the central point of communication for all internal operations teams.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Read and analyze Event Sheets to gather event information, determine proper set up, timeline, and specific client needs.
  • Ensure venue is prepared to welcome guests prior to event start, including room set-up, audio visual, security, parking, guest services staff, and engineering.
  • Act as day-of point of contact for events, including greeting clients and assisting them with all of their day-of event needs.
  • Supervise set-up and breakdown of event spaces, when necessary.
  • Anticipate client and guest needs to enhance the overall event experience.
  • Problem-solve in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work in unison with internal teams and external vendors to ensure a positive client and guest experience.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of ballpark policies to help ensure the safety of all guests and employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and photocopiers. The noise level is usually moderate but can be loud within the stadium environment. Majority of time spent in indoor, climate-controlled environment of offices. May also be exposed to partially sheltered outdoor environment subject to climate fluctuations (rain, heat, cold, etc.).

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision.Ability to regularly work on your feet for long hours and climb stairs/ramps throughout the ballpark. The position requires the ability to walk long distances and stand for 4 to 5 hours at a time without a break. Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds on occasion.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is part-time position with 20 hours of expected work per week. Due to the nature of this position, the position requires hours of work and days that include frequent evenings/nights, weekends and holidays.

Travel

Travel will not be required for this position.
