Northwest University's College Of Business is seeking an Event Assistant, a student worker role to gain hands-on experience in event management and conference services on campus. You will gain practical exposure to hospitality, client interaction, event coordination, and administrative tasks for NU-hosted events.

You'll assist with event setup/teardown, serve as host and primary contact, and provide excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating events and conference logistics with customers via phone, text, email, and campus tours.
  • Assist with setup and teardown for events and conferences on and off campus.
  • Serve as event host and point-of-contact during conferences and events.
  • Perform other office administrative duties as needed.
  • Support details for institutional events such as Homecoming, Family Weekend, and others.

Job description

Time Commitment This is a part-time position ranging from 5 to 20 hours a week (up to 20 hours/week in the summer). Work is dependent on the number of events and conferences that are scheduled.

Position Summary

The Event Assistant is a Student Worker position designed to provide a Northwest University student the opportunity to gain first‑hand knowledge in the areas of event management and conference services. Students gain experience through hospitality, client interaction, event correspondence, and administrative tasks necessary to manage Northwest University hosted events. The position includes setting up and tearing down events and conferences. Some evenings and weekends will be required.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in coordinating events and conference details and logistics with customers via phone calls, texts, email correspondence, and campus tours.
  • Assists in set up and tear down for events (on and off campus) and conferences (on campus).
  • Event host and point-of-contact during conferences and events.
  • Performs other office administrative duties.
  • Assists with event details for institutional events such as New Parent Welcome, Homecoming & Family Weekend, Board of Director Meetings, President's Banquet, and others as needed.
  • Provides outstanding customer service to all stakeholders.
Education/Experience/Skills
  • Must be a current student at Northwest University.
  • Must provide exceptional customer service.
  • Must be detail oriented: thorough and accurate.
  • Must have computer experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Must be willing to work with a flexible schedule.
  • Self-initiating abilities preferred.
  • Demonstrate commitment to maintaining a safe work environment free of harassment, violence, and unlawful discrimination.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, get along well with co-workers, and deal effectively and professionally with colleagues.
  • Able to walk up and down stairs and lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Requires work in outdoor weather conditions, including wet, cold, and heat.
  • Work is also performed indoors in a typical office setting.
  • Position works with strictly confidential information.
Physical Demands

The functions are usually performed while standing, but may involve some amount of time sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, lifting (max. of 40 lbs.), walking, carrying, reaching, stretching, climbing, perform repetitive motions of the hands or wrists and other movements. The abilities of seeing, hearing and speaking are also required.
