Job summary

McAlister Institute, a 49-year beacon in San Diego’s Recovery Community, seeks a compassionate SUD Counselor to join our team. You will provide individual and group counseling, develop treatment plans, and support clients through recovery, reporting to the site Program Manager.

On-site position with a strong emphasis on trauma-informed care and evidence-based practices. Qualifications include a high school diploma, CA SUD certification, at least two years in behavioral health, and bilingual

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Certified or Registered SUD Counselor (CAADE, CADTP or equivalent) required.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in behavioral health services.
• Experience with adult populations in counseling/therapeutic settings.
• Experience with clients referred via Probation, Child Welfare, Dependency Drug Court, or criminal justice system is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active caseload with individual and group counseling.
• Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans.
• Conduct intake screenings using ASI and ASAM PCC.
• Deliver trauma-informed, culturally competent treatment programs.
• Collaborate with social workers, therapists, case managers, and medical staff.
• Educate clients and families about recovery resources.
• Coordinate with community resources and referrals.
