Job summary

MemorialCare Health System in Long Beach, CA, is seeking a Coord, SPD MDC Shift to lead Sterile Processing operations evenings. You will coordinate decontamination, sterilization, and instrument handling, provide technical guidance, and ensure timely workflow with OR and clinical teams.

The role requires strong instrumentation knowledge, 3+ years of experience, and professional certifications. A signing bonus of $2,000 is available to external hires meeting employment requirements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' relevant experience preferred.
• Experience leading and/or training junior staff preferred.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization processes, and regulatory standards preferred.
• Experience with workflow coordination, training, or quality assurance preferred.
• Experience with complex specialty instrumentation and vendor/loaner tray management strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates daily workflow activities within Sterile Processing to support timely decontamination, assembly, sterilization, disinfection, storage, and distribution.
• Serves as primary technical resource during shifts, advising on instrumentation, processing methods, and IFUs.
• Monitors workflow across functional areas and moves instruments and supplies to support patient care needs.
• Identifies issues such as instrument discrepancies, missing items, and processing delays; escalates as needed.
• Communicates with OR staff, nursing units, physicians, vendors, and other stakeholders about priorities and status.
• Verifies readiness of instrument trays and equipment; resolves concerns affecting operations.
• Provides hands-on technical support for complex instrument processing and vendor trays.
• Demonstrates standard work practices and SOPs to staff; promotes consistency.
• Uses instrument tracking system to monitor status and ensure traceability.
• Coordinates receipt, processing, prioritization, documentation, and return of loaner instrumentation.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

Associate’s degree preferred

HSPA or CBSPD certification required

CIS certification preferred

CER certification preferred

CHL certification preferred
