Job summary

Western Pennsylvania School for Blind Children in Oakland, PA, seeks an RN to provide direct nursing services and health care coordination for students with visual impairments and multiple disabilities, ensuring a safe environment and supporting participation in education.

The Evening shift Sundays-Thursdays 3p-11p, 189 days per year; compensation $40.34–$49.38/hr with a $2.00/hr shift differential; non-exempt.

Qualifications

• Valid PA Licensed Registered Nurse.
• Bachelor's Degree with School Nurse certification preferred.
• Experience with pediatric populations preferred.
• 3 years' experience with children who have visual impairments or disabilities preferred.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Clearances for Acts 34, 114, and 151 required.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop a working knowledge about health histories of students assigned to primary caseload.
• Perform nursing assessment, triage, and care for students with acute health symptoms, as needed.
• Provide direct nursing care: medications, treatments, tube feedings when necessary, catheterizations, suctioning, oxygen administration, and other orders.
• Monitor and manage chronic conditions such as seizures, diabetes, and respiratory disorders.
• Respond to emergencies and implement crisis health protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support student participation.
• Communicate health issues with educational staff as warranted.
• Serve as liaison among school, families, and healthcare providers.
• Train school staff on student health issues with support from nursing staff.
• Communicate with families about health issues.
• Refer complex issues to APN or PCP as warranted.
• Document nursing care activities.
• Support LPNs and Health Assistants.
• Maintain confidential health records compliant with FERPA/HIPAA.
• Ensure immunization and medication policy compliance.
• Perform outreach activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
