Job summary

Applitrack is seeking a Custodian to maintain school buildings and grounds, ensuring a clean, safe, and attractive educational environment. The role covers cleaning, climate control, minor repairs, security, and daily inspections to prevent hazards.

The position requires attention to detail, punctuality, and the ability to follow building schedules. You will work the 3pm–11pm shift, reporting to the building supervisor and maintenance leadership.

Qualifications

• Physically and mentally capable of performing tasks within the job description.
• Must have obtained a High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful passage of the State Competency Test for Custodians or holds or has held the classification as a Custodian

Responsibilities

• The Custodian shall be neatly dressed and maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness.
• Notify the building principal if unable to be on the job.
• Do not leave work without approval from the building principal.
• Care for, maintain, protect and preserve the school building and contents.
• Keep doors and windows locked and maintain site security.
• Keep steps and walks clear of snow; dispose of burnable rubbish daily.
• Inspect for fire hazards and report major repairs; operate and maintain fire safety devices.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
• Prevent fire hazards through daily inspections and prompt minor repairs.
• Be alert to faulty construction or equipment; prevent falling objects in buildings.
• In charge of small heating plants and heating/ventilation; ensure adequate heat and fuel stock.
• Care for school grounds and grounds equipment; remove litter daily.
• Sweep, dust, and clean interior and exterior per schedules; obtain cleaning schedule from principal.
• Erase writing on walls promptly; clean restrooms four times daily; ensure supplies and sanitation.
• Clean dry erase boards; buff floors; adjust window shades to uniform height.
• Exhibit regular attendance and punctuality; manage custodial supplies and requisitions.
• Exclude unauthorised persons and respond to disturbances; monitor for safety and security.
• Perform additional services requested by the principal for maintenance.
