Job summary

Independent School District 196 is seeking a custodian for an 8-hour shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position begins ASAP, with an application deadline of September 1, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and prior custodial experience is preferred. Responsibilities include cleaning, minor repairs, furniture handling, securing the building, recycling, grounds duties, and snow removal as needed.

Qualifications

• Must follow verbal and written instructions and work independently.
• Must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties including lifting up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
• Ability to communicate clearly with staff, students and the public.
• Desire to work in a cooperative, team environment.
• Good attendance and punctuality expected.
• Positive work performance evaluations required; no recent disciplinary actions.
• Must conduct a positive interview and receive good references.
• Experience with diverse school communities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean assigned building areas and perform minor repairs and maintenance as directed.
• Move and assemble furniture as needed.
• Assist in securing the building during and at the end of shift.
• Assist in the school recycling program.
• Assist with grounds duties: pick up trash, mow, weed control, snow removal.
• Perform duties in a timely, neat, and efficient manner.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
