Job summary

The City of Somerville is seeking a custodial professional to perform comprehensive cleaning and maintenance duties in its school facilities. The role requires physical stamina and the ability to work in a dynamic environment, including handling cleaning equipment and minor repairs.

This is a safety-sensitive, full-time position with an evening shift from 3:10pm to 11:10pm and union representation by SEIU Local 3. The job includes benefits and pre-employment requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have physical ability to do the work.
• Must possess a valid Massachusetts Class D driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Clean walls, HVAC diffusers, ceiling fans, and window glass inside and outside schools.
• Complete cleaning of walls and fixtures; clean stairwells; shampoo carpets; sweep, wash, strip, wax and buff floors; dust furniture; change light bulbs.
• Police grounds; sweep walks; cut lawns; remove snow and ice; care for custodial equipment; empty wastebaskets; remove trash; order custodial supplies; make minor repairs to buildings, equipment, heating, lighting, air conditioning, ventilation and plumbing systems.
• Perform other similar duties as assigned.
