Job summary

Mercer County Community College is seeking a Reference and Information Literacy Librarian to lead information literacy instruction across the curriculum, provide reference and research assistance to students and faculty, and collaborate with faculty to integrate library resources into courses.

  • Describes or demonstrates procedures for navigating the public access catalog or electronic resources.
  • Searches files, reference shelves, and computerized information systems to locate requested information.
  • Answers queries on complicated reference subjects, including formulating and processing online search requests.
  • Participates in library outreach programs and conducts library instruction/information literacy.
  • Provides instruction and actively participates in the development and design of classes on use of the library and its resources.
  • Assembles and arranges displays of books and other library materials
  • Helps organize and maintain reference materials
  • Complies bibliographies and develops library user guides, both printed and electronic.
  • Assists in reference collection development, including planning and promoting electronic information resources and services

The Reference and Information Literacy Librarian helps to lead the development, promotion and provision of Information Literacy instruction throughout the curriculum; provides reference and research assistance to students, faculty ; works closely with the faculty to provide content and research assistance for their courses, and participates in the positioning of the library as a strategic asset to the teaching and learning goals of Mercer County Community College.

Helps assist patrons in locating and obtaining materials by performing the following duties:

The hours of the position are Fall/Spring, Monday & Tuesday, 4:00 - 8:00 pm; Summer, Monday & Tuesday, 4:00 - 7:00 pm.

Master’s degree in library or information science from an ALA-accredited program or within 6 hours of completing such a program.
