Job summary

UPMC is seeking a Patient Transport Assistant to support patient mobility and transportation within the facility. This full-time evening shift (12:00 PM - 8:30 PM) includes weekend and holiday rotation and requires adherence to unit policies and safety standards.

The role involves coordinating with nurses and the Patient Transport Supervisor, handling traction and suction equipment, assisting with patient transfers, and maintaining transport logs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• CPR and BLS certifications required by AHA standards.
• Ability to communicate clearly with care teams and patients.

Responsibilities

• Relay patient care information to the transport supervisor or nurse.
• Inspect and manage traction equipment; ensure oxygen tanks and supplies are ready.
• Assist with patient transfers, bed mobility, and overall safety during transport.
• Operate elevator or coordinate transport requests as needed.
• Maintain logs and coordinate calls for patient transportation within Nursing Administration policies.
